I started playing pinball when I was in my teens. It all started back in 1979 when my friend Randy took me to the 8th Avenue mall arcade in Calgary to play a Williams Gorgar. It was in the show room window of the arcade on a stage type setting. It was brand new. Being the first talking pinball which said only 7 words, they had the game wired to a stereo speaker mounted on the wall. I was blown away by the sound of the thumping heart and the talking voice of GORGAR! I was hooked. Throughout my school years my friends and I would go play on Friday and Saturday nights at the 8 Avenue arcades for hours. Sometimes spending as little as five dollars a night. As arcades closed down in the 80's I lost touch with pinball for awhile, but it never left my heart.
I bought my first game in 1993. A 1980 Williams Black Knight. Later I purchased a 1986 Williams Sorcerer. It was in rough shape. It had heavy playfield wear and was very dirty. I played it for awhile and then decided to restore it. It took me 10 months but it turned out beautifullly restored. I sold it some time later to a friend. In 1996 I purchased a prototype 1993 Williams Indiana Jones for $1500.00. It was so dirty and the right flipper did not work. I put in over 100 hours restoring that game and it came out like it was from the factory; new in the box. This was when I decided I would learn the technical part of how to fix pinballs.
Through reading technical books, seminars, the internet and hands on teaching I taught myself how to fix pinballs.
This decision lead to the birth of my company in November of 2001; Jay Richardson Pinball Inc. was born on a part time basis while working my full time job. I purchased 31 pinballs from a company who no longer wanted to operate them. Most were dead or not working properly and all of them were extremely dirty. I wanted to provide reliable, clean and properly working games for the home market that played like they were intented to play when they first came from the factory. So I started to restore the games one by one, and selling to the home market locally and through ebay. Another one of my goals was to provide the best customer service possible within the industry.
In 2006 I left my full time job of 18 years to pursue my dream of bringing pinball to the home market. I have been repairing pinballs for over 17 years now and have been doing it as a business for over 9 years.
I specialize in pinball sales, restorations, servicing and parts for the home and commercial market. I provide the best quality, most realiable new and used games possible, backed by customer service and support that cannot be matched in the Calgary, AB. Canada area. I guarantee it.
